FAQ
What are the key benefits of getting an environmental consultation?
Our initial consultation provides clarity and value across multiple areas:
- Health: Lower the risk of illnesses like asthma and create a healthier environment for your family or employees.
- Productivity: Improve indoor air quality to increase focus and productivity in the home or workplace.
- Financial & Planning: Avoid costly restoration mistakes and reduce long-term building maintenance expenses through proactive project management.
- Liability: Reduce legal liability by demonstrating due diligence and adherence to current health and safety standards for all occupants.
- Clear Guidance: Receive a clear process and expert guidance on the necessary steps to resolve any issues we discover.
Why should I act now instead of waiting to address a potential hazard?
Delaying action can lead to increased risk and expense:
- Health Risks: Ignoring a hazard can be detrimental to the long-term health and well-being of occupants.
- Increased Liability: Business owners and landlords can be held liable if an employee or tenant becomes ill due to negligence of a known issue.
- Costly Damage: Unaddressed air quality or moisture issues can lead to dangerous, expensive, long-term structural problems in your building. Don’t just wonder—know you’re safe.
How does the initial consultation process work?
Our process is simple and focused on providing immediate value:
- On-Site Assessment: A qualified consultant from Built Environments will visit your home, workplace, or industrial setting to assess your unique situation.
- Expert Guidance: We act as your project guide, providing you with the technical information and next steps you need to make the best decision.
- Critical Timing: It is crucial to address concerns about air quality, mould, or asbestos earlier rather than later to mitigate risk effectively.
What is the cost of the consultation?
Built Environments offers a free 15-minute initial consultation for first-time clients within Saskatoon and Regina.
- Clients outside these cities can still book, but our standard hourly rates plus travel expenses will apply. We proudly service all of Saskatchewan and beyond.
- Our pricing is designed to be affordable, ensuring you get the answers you deserve regarding the health and safety of your space.
What is the general process for a consultation?
Our consultation process is a structured way to get you clear answers:
- Book your appointment.
- We visit your home, workplace, or industrial building.
- We discuss your specific concerns and visually assess the areas in question for hazards and associated risks.
- We provide advice on whether you have a legitimate concern that needs addressing.
- If required, we create a detailed, custom action plan to help you move forward with resolving the problem.
How long does a consultation usually take?
The duration depends on the complexity and scope of the problem.
- A simple assessment typically takes about 1 hour per 1,000 square feet of space. This means an on-site consultation for a standard home usually takes less than 2 hours.
- Consulting on larger or complex commercial projects may involve several stages of work and could be ongoing over weeks or months.
Who performs the consultation?
Consultations are performed by our experienced, friendly staff, led by Josh Kulyk.
- Our team comprises construction experts with strong backgrounds in science and technology.
- We are all passionate about ensuring safe, healthy occupancies for our clients.
How can I best prepare for the consultation?
To maximize the value of your appointment, we recommend you:
- Compile a list of issues and any past incidents you wish to address. This ensures we consider all factors important to your investigation.
- If we plan to conduct indoor air quality testing, please close all windows and doors well in advance of the testing time. This prevents outside air from diluting the air samples, giving us the most accurate measure of indoor conditions.
What happens if you discover an issue?
If we identify a potential issue during the consultation, we ensure you have the facts:
- We will provide a brief background on the specific hazard and its risks.
- We may recommend further sampling or testing to confirm the hazard’s presence or determine the exposure levels.
- If the issue is related to a construction defect, we will bring it to your attention.
- No matter the issue, our priority is giving you accurate, pertinent information so you can make informed decisions that best suit your situation.
